The Supra Rollercoaster
Introduction:
Since returning from the World Cup break, FC Supra du Québec have experienced both highs and lows. In the Canadian championship, they were able to put three past Atletico Ottawa in an inspiring victory to give them the advantage going into the second leg. On the other hand, a 2-1 defeat to Forge and a disastrous 5-1 home loss against Vancouver have left them in seventh place in the league.
The Highs:
Supra have shown impressive attacking quality and have scored several excellent goals. The front four of Choinière, Rea, Bahiya, and Kwemi have combined effectively and created plenty of attacking opportunities. Rea has been outstanding, scoring a superb goal against Ottawa and coming close to finding the net again against Vancouver. Kwemi also impressed against Ottawa, recording a goal and an assist. Supra have shown the ability to control possession, create chances in the opposition box, and threaten from distance.
The Lows:
The lows have been quite apparent throughout the entire season for Nick Razzaghi’s side. Defensively, Supra has struggled at times, leaving gaps between the lines and often being vulnerable in aerial situations. For example, against Vancouver, Supra controlled possession for long periods, but Vancouver repeatedly punished turnovers with quick attacks. Even in the middle of the park, they are unable to stay consistent. However, the change to Biello - Sissoko in the midfield compared to Boughanmi - Mlah has been beneficial. Biello and Sissoko performed very well against Ottawa, but a disappointing display against Vancouver saw both players substituted before halftime.
There are several players who deserve special mentions for either their positive or negative impact in recent matches.
Diyaeddine Abzi📉
After a strong start to the season, the left-back has struggled in recent matches. Although getting an assist in the most recent match, he also gave away a penalty to cause Vancouver to take a two-goal advantage. He has looked more vulnerable defensively and has been involved in several costly mistakes.
Sasha Deslandes + Keesean Ferdinand📉
The two central defenders have been at fault for many goals conceded throughout the past three games. They are both grouped together as Razzaghi has been swapping them for each other often, and they both seem to have the same weaknesses. Both have struggled with marking and have looked vulnerable in defensive situations.
Sean Rea📈
As mentioned before, Rea has been apart of a very lively Supra attack. After a rather quiet return against Forge, he scored a worldie in the Canadian Championship. He was also involved in Supra’s third goal against Ottawa, helping create the move that eventually led to Ibrahim Conde scoring. Even in the most recent game against Vancouver, his passing was on point and had very close chances to score. He has been Supra’s standout performer so far and has established himself as one of the league’s top attacking players.
Alessandro Biello🟰
Biello can be very hit or miss. He is a fantastic player with amazing defensive attributes and a lot of physicality. However, his physicality can be his biggest concern as he gives away fouls rather easily. As mentioned before, in his most recent game, he was taken off early due to a yellow card and risk of getting a red card. He can occasionally be overaggressive in challenges, but when he times his tackles well, he shows why he is regarded as one of the league’s most promising young players.
Conclusion:
All in all, it is known that this team has immense talent. We have seen this team perform at a high level in matches against Atletico Ottawa and Inter Toronto, where they controlled large portions of the game. On the other hand, they have also produced performances where they look disorganized and unable to contain the opposition. It’s this inconsistency that has them towards the bottom of the league table. If FC Supra can find greater consistency, they have the foundation to compete for a playoff spot.
